Momi — home

Chapter I

A story that starts in Turin.

Momi began in Turin. Not from a shop window and not from a goldsmithing school: from the need for a personal style, and from not finding one ready-made anywhere.

At the start there is a bench, a box of materials that have nothing in common, and one plain question: what happens if brass sits next to cotton, if a hard stone ends up on a thread of fabric, if resin takes the place usually held by crystal. Most costume jewellery starts from a single line — one metal, one colour, one season. Momi started from the pairing, and never moved off it.

That rule became the test for everything else. The shapes that keep returning — hearts, stars, gold chain and silver chain — are not a collection: they are the vocabulary a different thing gets said with each year.

The second name

Another way of saying it arrived early: StileMomi, Momi style. Not a different logo but an admission that what was being built was less a collection and more a way of putting things together.

Why Turin

Turin is the city where Momi works and where much of what it uses is found. It is a city of workshops that held on, and some of the suppliers go back years by now: they are the ones who turn up the stones and metals that no catalogue lists.

Drawing and assembly happen in the same room. A piece does not travel from a desk to a factory: it is thought out and built on the same table, by the same hands. That choice puts a ceiling on quantity, and the ceiling stayed even when removing it would have been convenient.

Today

Next to the four families sit the one-off pieces — assembled once, from materials found once — and a line made for men. The pieces are sold through the online shop and by the shops that stock them.

The place where a Momi piece is first seen, though, is almost always someone's neck or wrist. That is how the brand has travelled so far: one person at a time, without shortcuts.

What has not changed is the sentence the brand started from, still the test by which a piece counts as finished or does not.

Elegance is not being noticed. It is being remembered.
